What should be done when the KTS will not switch on?
Basically, a sufficient supply of voltage from the vehicle must be present. If this is not the case, an attempt should be made to supply the voltage by means of the mains supply unit included, or via the cigarette lighter connection.
KTS 200 cannot be connected to PC (no driver present)
The driver for the KTS 200 is installed during the installation of the ESI[tronic]-Startcenter. If you still have problems with the driver, reinstall the Startcenter.
KTS 200 cannot set up communication with the vehicle
Communication with a control unit in a vehicle is a complex procedure. Only if contacts are made correctly and cleanly can communication be set up. Even the shortest interruption, loose connection or a contact resistance that is too high can prevent reliable connection. The adapter is particularly important. The most reliable and simplest adapter is generally that supplied by the manufacturer. Possible sources of faults:
Power supply: Basically, a sufficient supply of voltage must be present. Immobilizer: If communication with the control unit is not achieved despite repeated attempts, the immobilizer may block the engine system management unit. This particularly happens when the vehicle has been parked with the doors open and the ignition may have been switched on and off, but the engine did not run. Remedy: Briefly lock and then unlock the vehicle or activate and then deactivate the immobilizer.
Radio: If the vehicle is fitted with a radio that does not correspond to the original equipment, the diagnosis of various other systems may be affected by this. The problem can be remedied by temporarily removing the radio.
Wrong pin on diagnosis plug: If the manufacturer-specific adapter cable is not used, this must be adapted to fit with the help of suitable test cables. If the wrong pin is adapted, communication can not be built up.
Wrong diagnosis socket: In several vehicle types or brands, diverse diagnostic sockets mounted at different locations are used for the various systems. Control unit is not the type expected: Control units from different manufacturers may be fitted in the same type of vehicle, requiring different programs (the vehicle type is listed in the list of vehicles, but can only be checked with the one control unit variant). Automatic search not possible: Some system types are not recognized by an automatic search (blink code (BC), SDL, OBD (CARB) ...). These systems require special initialization. If such a system is fitted to the vehicle, the search finishes without success. The note "No system found" appears. If programs for other systems are available for this brand, these are offered for individual selection after the unsuccessful search. This does not happen, however, if at least one system is found. Nonetheless, other systems may be available which are not recognized by the search. Further causes: Test sequence is not followed exactly.
Communication is not possible since no test program is present for this control unit. Communication is not possible since an unknown protocol is present (e.g. change of protocol).
What should be done when a system search does not find a system in the vehicle?
Only the system search attempts to address all possible systems. When using a conventional adapter cable, however, this is only possible if all systems in the vehicle can be communicated with via the same pin of the diagnosis plug (bus system). If an OBD multiplexer is used, a prerequisite is that for the corresponding brand, the control units within a group lead out to the same pins in all vehicles. The system search is limited to the selected group. Direct selection is limited to the selected system. If the wrong system is selected, communication is not possible.
Vehicle insufficiently or incorrectly identified. Before starting the search, the vehicle can, if so desired, be identified at different depths in the KTS 200. If too few, or not all, of the available criteria are used, this may lead to the automatic search being unsuccessful. The automatic search may also fail when a criterion was wrongly selected when identifying the vehicle (e.g. cubic capacity or power).
The Startcenter software cannot be installed correctly on the PC!
Possible cause: Virus scanner is preventing installation. Remedy: Deactivate the virus scanner briefly for the duration of the installation Possible cause: Insufficient hard drive space.
