News on 01/18/2013 – Bosch’s Mastertech VCI (M-VCI) aftermarket scan tool now provides OEM level diagnostic and reprogramming functions for BMW and Mini vehicles by supporting BMW’s Technical Information System (ISTA) application for the aftermarket. This is a powerful addition to M-VCI’s diagnostic capabilities which already boasts of two industry leading aftermarket diagnostics applications - ESI[tronic]™ 2.0, Shop Foreman Pro software, in addition to supporting the General Motors Tech2Win OEM diagnostic application. Starting September 2012, automobile manufacturers will be required to comply with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) final rule (49 C.F.R 563) which requires manufacturers of cars and light trucks with vehicles that store Event Data Recorder (EDR) information in their ECUs during a crash to ensure that a commercially available tool is available to read out this information within 90 days of the first sale of a vehicle into the U.S. market. Broadview, IL — Bosch and Mazda Motor Corporation have entered into a license agreement to allow Bosch access to Mazda Event Data Recorder (EDR) system information, for the purpose of supporting Mazda automobiles with the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) tool. (10/03/2011)
Automobile manufacturers, starting in September of 2012, will be required to ensure that new light vehicles equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR) in their Electronic Control Units (ECUs), allow EDR data to be retrieved by a commercially available tool, following a crash. This is in compliance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) final rule (49 CFR Part 563), and manufacturers will be required to have this capability in place within 90 days of the first sale of such a vehicle into the US market.
